Welcome back to Hootie’s Story Nest, part of the PHPS Difference Podcast Summer Series!
In this episode, Mrs. Fleischer, one of our PHPS Kindergarten Teachers, shares an excerpt from Pig the Tourist by Aaron Blabey. This hilarious story follows Pig on a vacation full of laughs, adventure, and a few lessons along the way.

SPEAKER_03Hi, PHPS readers. We are so excited to have Miss Fleischer here with us, our kindergarten teacher. She is going to share today about some books and her summer reading and her favorite recommendations. And so we're just really happy to have you here. But first, before we get going, we would love for you to tell us about what you're going to do this summer.
SPEAKER_05Well, first of all, I'm just going to relax and not make plans in the beginning and then eventually go somewhere trying to figure out exactly where I'm going to go out of town. But for now, I'm just looking forward to relaxing and not really having a schedule. So that's lovely. Yep.
SPEAKER_04And you'll be here for summer lap, which is great.
SPEAKER_05I will be here for summer lap. So that's awesome. Most excited about.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes. I'm sure you'll do a lot of podcast listening since that's one of your favorite things to do in audiobooks. Audiobooks. Definitely.
SPEAKER_05Yes. Just a leisure summer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, speaking of books, I see you have a hefty stack with you today. And we're so excited. What did you bring to share with our listeners?
SPEAKER_05So I brought Pig the Tourist. I love the Pig the Pug books. Um, so I'm gonna read a little bit of Pig the Tourist by Aaron Blayby, um, and published by Scholastic. Pig was a pug, and I'm sorry to say, when he went on vacation, he'd cause great dismay. You could make careful plans to ensure happy travel, but pig would destroy them. He'd make them unravel. With behavior so bad it is hard to describe. He would dampen your trip and he'd ruin the vibe. He'd break all the rules and he'd flaunt all tradition, causing disaster was Pig's big ambition. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_03That sounds like such a fun story.
SPEAKER_06It's very fun, yes.
SPEAKER_04And the illustrations are great too. They're uh they're funny.
SPEAKER_06The detail in the car, sure.
SPEAKER_04Well, Miss Fletcher, one of the questions that we always like to ask is what is a book that you're currently reading or a book that you enjoyed reading when you were a kid?
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm currently listening to a book, and you asked me, so I can't remember the name, but it's a good mystery. Um, and by Frieda McFadden, I do know that, but I listened to a lot of her books I like. Um, but when I was little, I really liked Beverly Clarity, the Ramona series, and um all the things that she wrote. Just a few of the recommendations. Um, I really like the Pow Pow Fish books um and Rainbow Fish kind of have a little theme here. Summer a little summer theme. Um, and then one that's really fun is peanut butter and jellyfish. Um, they're all good, just little summer reads that I'll be reading some during summer lab with my class and um just anything fun with good illustration.
SPEAKER_03They look great and they look like something that would be fun for families to read together or read at bedtime. And I like the idea of a little summer theme pack. Definitely yes. Great choices. Thank you for sharing.
